The manuscript is in good overall condition; there is some fraying along
the edges and the covers have been worn, but apart from that no great damage has
been done.
One unruled column with a varying number of lines.
One hand writing a cursive of
saec.
XVI
. Headlines entered and some corrections made by a contemporary hand
(possibly the main hand) in red ink that has faded in several places.Majuscules for the beginnings of charters have been highlighted in red ink;
headlines in red ink. Persons and places named in the charters have been underlined
with black ink.
A limp binding reusing a leaf from a canon law manuscript of
saec. XIII or XIV
. c
. 27 × 42,5* (20,5
(9,5 + 1,5 + 9,5) × 35*).The manuscript consists of a single quire containing charters (dated between
1365 and 1476) concerning the goods of St Sigfried’s altar in the cathedral of
Turku
.
The originals of the charters were kept in the cathedral and many – although not all
of them – also appear in the cathedral’s copybook (REA
). The writing of this
manuscript seems to have taken place during saec. XVI
; possibly it was done in
connection with the confiscations of the charters during the Reformation. In
1763
the manuscript was in the possession of the Swedish historian and collector,
Anders Anton von Stiernman
(1695–1765) who mentions
it in a letter to K. F. Mennander
(1712–1786), bishop of Turku (see Österbladh 1942,
661
). After Stiernman’s death, his collections were passed to Olaus d.y. Celsius
(1716–1794)
through marriage in 1766
. The manuscripts from the collection were moved to Uppsala
University Library
in 1795
.First leaf: Shelf-mark of Uppsala University Library, ‘E 214’, and a previous
shelf-mark ‘Celsiska Saml. 2. 80’; ‘n: 80’ also on the verso side.
