Fols. 1–4, 35a and 49 survive only as thin strips of varying size at the inner margins. The leaves have been repaired with paper.

Varieties of Gothic Cursive by several hands; on
fol. 28v
, pen-trials in Gothic Textualis and Hybrida. The scribes were probably successive priests of the church – the youngest main hand is that of curate
Mathias
(see
fol. 45v

No decoration. Even rubrics only rarely distinguished by placing or script, mostly in the first part of the book.
Modern ledger binding in dark brown leather. Sewn with strips of parchment (partly restored); the binding of the quires has been reinforced using patches of parchment (mostly recycled, but apparently virgin between fols. 32 and 33; and restored between fols. 39 and 40).
A parish
account book
kept apparently by successive priests at
Tyrvää
church, used between the
1460s and 1493, and 1499 and 1524
. Until the
1490s
the book seems to have consisted of the first two quires (fols. 1–28) only. Between
1493 and 1499
more quires were added.
The book remained in
Tyrvää
, where it was found in the nineteenth century.
Discovered by
J. Oskar I. Rancken
at the medieval church of
Kalliala
(
Tyrvää
) in
1851
, and donated by
Antero Warelius
, then the temporary chaplain, to the
Finnish Literature Society
, which eventually forwarded the book to the
National Archives
(the discovery is reported in
Rancken 1888, 26
).
