i.e. fols. 1–3 and 11–13 form a trinio that encloses fols. 4–10; fols. 89 and 119 a bifolium that encloses fols. 90–118; fols. 92 and 99 a bifolium that encloses fols. 93–98; and fols. 100 and 118 a bifolium enclosing 106–118.
XXXXX
Loose quires, the original order of which is somewhat uncertain (see e.g. the break in the chronological series at fol. ). It may be that the register was initially kept as separate quires, which were only bound together at a later date. Individual folia depart from the general format of the leaves, and folia are at times trimmed.
The present archival unit contains more material, but the 140 folia described here appear to form an original codicological unit, with dimensions that are distinct from the rest of the book but which correspond to the dimensions of the parchment leaf used as their cover (
Turku, The Provincial Archives of Turku, The Rauma Magistrate’s Archives, HD:1
). There is also an unfoliated bifolium [fols. 141–142] and similarly unfoliated fragments of four folia (in very poor condition). The four leaves seem to belong to the original book, while the bifolium appears to be somewhat later and may derive from elsewhere.
One column with a varying number of lines; not ruled.
Varieties of Gothic cursive in several hands.
Not decorated.
Currently not bound, and variously coming apart. Has been bound in a parchment leaf now conserved as
Turku, Provincial Archives of Turku, The Rauma Magistrate’s Archives, HD:1
. The fragment comes from a
Dominican gradual
, and is written in Gothic textualis of
saec. XIV
(possibly from
France
?) (1 folio, parchment, 22,5 × 37 (19,5 × 26). Text and notation in one column on ten lines).
The contents are as follow: [recto] [ma]nus enim mea auxiliabitur …confortabit eum.
offertorium
. … tue …
tempore resurrectionis
. [allelu]ia.
offertorium
. Desidera--- … in capite ….
tempore resurrectionis
commune
… constituet eum [
verso
]
commune
D--- …audisti michi ecce a … euge serue fidelis qui … commune. Fide … testes in celo.
A
saec. XVI
hand has added in the lower margin of the recto-side, at a right angle to the original text, verses from the hymn
Caeperit faustis auibus
.
‘---meliore fato hic nouus sudor … aspice Jesu Hic rudis tamquam … sobolem’.
This leaf is in very poor condition as a result not only of its reuse as a cover but also because of a heavy-handed use of reagents (for a description see
Lähteenoja 1931
): the parchment shows staining and apparent oxidization, which would appear to have resulted from treatment with chemicals.
The tax ledger of the city of Rauma, apparently begun sometime in the
1570s.
Kept in the
Rauma Magistrate’s archives
, which in the twentieth century were deposited in
Turku Provincial Archives
.

(1931), 837–838.
