I: 16 folios; II: 24 folios.

20-20,5cm × 29-31cm
No foliation.
I: II(2III)
16
; contains two trinio
-quires placed within a quire of two bifolia. II: I(III+VIII)24
; contains two quires placed within a single
bifolium. Two separate parts. Both parts are in relatively good condition. There
is some fraying along the edges and some moisture damage, but no loss of text.
Two different watermarks: I has a
glove with a flower with
five leaves on top of it and letters ’RB’ inside
(similar to
Piccard online no. 155784
); II has an ewer with one
handle and a crown and flower on top of it
(similar but not
identical to Piccard online no. 31524
).In both, one unruled column, number of lines varies.
I: Two main hands writing a cursive script: the first writes fols. 1–7. The second,
fols. 9–14.
II: The whole of part II is written in the second hand of I.
In I (fols. 1–7) later markings in a different ink, and possibly by another
hand.
The headings are written in a more formal script. Otherwise, no decoration.
Both sections consist of simple string-bound quires without covers.
There are two manuscripts: part I has two sections of different quality. The
beginning of the manuscript is apparently a rough draft, with frequent cancellations
and additions. The second section records proceedings by the same judge who appears
in manuscript II,
Claus Holst
. It appears a more finished product and is written by
the same scribe as manuscript II, which seems to be a transcript, although there are
a few cancellations, and several entries lack exact dates. The writing was probably
done soon after the actual court sessions.Contemporaneous headings and
binding suggests the manuscripts were kept as separate units from the start. They
did, however, belong to the same collection.
I, fol. 1r: ‘203’. A modern hand has numbered the manuscripts as ‘1’ (I) and ‘2’
(II). Apart from this, there are no provenance markings.
The later history of the
manuscripts is not known. The material was possibly first moved to the
Svea court of
appeals
and subsequently to the Swedish National Archives
. It is not mentioned in
Almquist’s (1945)
or Sleman’s (1961)
inventories.Cataloguer
