1531–1540
A
register of finances
A well structured financial register detailing incomes and expenses in various goods for the estate complex of
Nynäs
,
Vik
, and
Lahis
(or possibly only one or two of them). Entries mostly concern the years
1531−1532
(fols. 1−61) but the last quire has notes up to 1540.
Paper
69 folios.
11cm × 29cm
Foliation in upper right-hand corner. The foliation of the manuscript is inconsistent, skipping over some blank leaves. The foliation marked on the manuscript is shown below in parentheses.

A varied quire structure. The first quire consists of eight bifolia with the last folio cut out. Folios six and seven have been sewn together. The second quire has eight bifolia and encloses an extra bifolium (with the first leaf left unnumbered and the second marked ‘25’). The third quire has eight bifolia and an added paper slip. Two folios have been cut out. The fourth quire consists of three bifolia and encloses an extra bifolium (leafs numbered 50 and 51). The fifth quire has three bifolia with the last folio cut out. Finally, the sixth quire consists of four bifolia.
Not ruled.
One main hand. Mainly brown ink. On fol. a note identifying the owner – and presumably scribe – as
Petrus Erici
.
No decoration.
Limp binding of light-brown leather. The back cover is extended into a wrap-around flap closing on the front. The front cover shows the remnants of a contemporary note, faded and illegible.
A rather well-written financial register which is better organized than its counterparts from the same period. The structuring of notes under clear and easily navigable headings suggests that this is a fair copy.
This manuscript is part of a large block of records from the
16th century
pertaining to the estates of
Nynäs
,
Vik
, and
Lahis
, which were managed as a whole. A likely place of writing is
Nynäs
estate, but the record could equally well have been written elsewhere.
The financial records of
Nynäs
and related estates came to the Swedish Crown, and later the
Swedish National Archives
, when the possessions and archives of
Hogenskild Bielke
were confiscated following his execution in
1605
(see
Introduction
to these descriptions).
