Two flyleaves at the beginning. Fols. 5 and 74 are singletons. Small
strips of parchment have been entered as fols. 83a and 91a. Fol. 109a is a
singleton stemming from another codex.
The manuscript is in good overall
condition, although there are some dirtied leaves and the text has become faded
on occasion.
The is written by one main hand
writing a textualis script. The writing took place in
Collectarium
1407
on
behalf of a brother Benedictus
, as is indicated by
a later note on fol. : ‘Istud collectarium fecit scribi frater
benedictus --- [per] remissionem peccatorum suorum anno [dmi] Mccccvij’. Contents of
the Collectarium
with segments for both Dominican and Nordic
saints suggests that Benedictus belonged to a Finnish Dominican convent. The other parts of the manuscript are written in a similar script, but probably by
another scribe. Further hands write later additions.
Fols. –,
– and – (in
two columns) contain quadratic notation on a red four-line stave.
Blue and red lombards (2 and 3 lines high) with simple flourished decorations on
fols. –. Black initials with red highlighting in
the noted sections on fols. –. Simple lombards
in red and blue (2 lines high) on fols. –; and
only in red on fols. –.
Rubrics, underlining and highlighting in red.
Medieval binding with brown calf over wooden boards. Remnants of two hook-clasps
attached to the fore-edges of the covers. On the front cover, a stamped monogram,
possibly with letters ‘chr[istus]’. Five sewing stations.
Parchment pastedowns. The front pastedown (labeled fol. I) has worked free of the
boards. It carries a fragment of a philosophical text, possibly a commentary on
Aristotle
, (saec. XIV
). The back pastedown (saec. XIV
) is a defective double leaf with various hymns by one
hand and a section from a breviary by another. The manuscript contains a set of liturgical texts, the most extensive being a
, a collection of prayers for the year’s
offices with two separate segments: the first contains mostly Dominican saints and
the second Nordic saints. Included are also offices conducted for a dying brother
and incipts for the year’s antiphons.
collectarium
The manuscript was written in
1407
on
behalf of a brother Benedictus
. Since the manuscript contains both Dominican and
Finnish traits, the writing was probably done within or for a Finnish Dominican
convent, of which there were two: the one in Viborg
and the one in
Turku
.Uppsala University Library
’s shelf-mark ‘C 421’ on labels pasted to the spine,
inner front cover

spine.Cataloguer
