              <p>Simple monochromatic initials. Headings, rubrics and biblical <hi rend="italic"
                  >lemmata</hi> marked with a slightly more formal script.</p>

            <bindingDesc>
              <p>Blind-stamped calf over wooden boards. Tooling features the roll-frames with
                evangelists, and vines and leaves in the central panel. Two hook-clasps (only one
                remains) with catches on the front cover. No pastedown remains on the front cover;
                the paper one on the back cover is mostly loose. A few pieces of leather and paper
                removed from the binding are preserved in an envelope kept with the manuscript.</p>

          <history>
            <origin><p>Second volume of the <title>Postille</title> collection written
                  <origDate>1556</origDate> by priest <persName role="author">Johannes Pauli
                  Montigena</persName> during his captivity in <origPlace>Hämeenlinna</origPlace>
                castle. Johannes was imprisoned because of his Catholic opinions. He was allowed to
                write his sermons in captivity and was able to acquire literature for the task. The
                work is dedicated to <persName>Olaus Magnus</persName> (d. 1557) living as an exile
                in <placeName>Rome</placeName>.</p></origin>
            <provenance>
              <p>In <date type="provenance">1573</date> Johannes Pauli is mentioned to be housed at
                  <placeName type="provenance">Vadstena</placeName>.</p>
            </provenance>
            <acquisition>
              <p>It seems likely he carried his works with him and they may have ended up in
                  <orgName>Uppsala University Library</orgName> along with the manuscripts of
                Vadstena Abbey in <date type="acquisition">1621</date>. <orgName>Uppsala University Library</orgName>’s shelf-mark on a label pasted
                <locus>inside the front cover</locus>.</p>
