Fol. 164r–v: Register to the book, written by a hand of saec. XVIII. The register refers to the texts with their page numbers (ends with the Kalmar recess, Erik’s hovordning added without page number).

 Paper 2 + 163 (164) folios 20,5 30 14 23,5 The two first leaves have been marked in modern times with pencil (a and b). Saec. XVIII pagination in ink on the recto sides, which starts from fol. 1 and runs to fol. 151 (pp. 1–299). This pagination is referred to in the saec. XVIII registry. The pagination was later cancelled when a younger foliation in ink was applied (1–164); two folia numbered 64 (64 and 64a); foliation jumps from 102 to 105. The actual number of leaves is thus 163. The newer foliation has been corrected in several places. The manuscript has predominantly octavo sized-quires, but the exact quire structure is difficult to reconstruct accurately owing to the tightness of the binding. The manuscript is in good condition. There is some slight staining, but apart from that, no visible damage. one unruled column with varying number of lines (c. 32–36)

One main hand writing a steady book cursive of late saec. XVI (or early saec. XVII). The same hand wrote several marginal and other additions to the law texts. The hand also wrote the Finnish section on fol. 20r–v, strongly suggesting that the scribe was Finnish. According to Schlyter (1834, LIII; 1869, LXIII) the manuscript was written by the same scribe as Stockholm, National Library, B 119 (no. 36 in Schlyter). This is difficult to confirm, since the quality of script varies considerably between the two manuscripts.

There are a few other hands of saec. XVII making notes and additions to the laws. Fols. 143v–151r and 159r–163v feature further hands of saec. XVII. Fols. 151v–158v and the register on fol. 164 are written by saec. XVIII hands.

Majuscules, ingresses and headlines in black with larger letters.

Light brown calf over wooden boards. Blind-tooled frames with vines and male busts with helms and garlands. In the central panel a scene depicting an angel blowing two horns above a personification of Astronomy (or Geometry) and Venus with a quotation from Ovid, <hi rend="italic">Metamorphoses</hi> 1,85–86. Initials ‘S:A:L’, presumably referring to Sigfried Luchoinen, above the panel and the year ‘1604’ below it. On the back cover a depiction of the last judgement with a quotation from Joh. 5:28. Remnants of two hook-clasps with catches at the fore-edge of the front cover. The boards overhang the text-block. Boards taper in thickness to the edges. Paper pastedowns.

The fact that the main hand supplied the Finnish text suggests that the manuscript originated in Finland at the turn of saec. XVII – possibly after 1602 when Pe(de)r Hansson of Walstad (Forstena) became the commander of Savonlinna. It contains a copy of King Kristoffer’s <hi rend="italic">Landslag</hi> furnished with several additions, and other texts, all closely related to another manuscript, Stockholm, National Library, B 119.

Inner front cover, an ownership mark by Sigfried Luchoinen, reporting that the manuscript was given to him by Peder Hansson on 4 August 1604 in Savonlinna (Nyslott): 'Hoo thenne book effterfråga will, Tå hörre hon mig Sigfridh Lwchoinen till, Hon ähr mig förähreden och gifwen, Och i så måtte min egen blifwin, På Nyslått den 4 Augusti på 1604de åhr, Effter frelsermansens Christi bördh som schrifwit står. Af den Eder och Welbördih Man Peder Hansson till Walstadh heet han, Till Hwargarin och Österby Lijcka så, War han ärff fallin I weta må ... ' (ed. in Rudbeck 1912, 4). Luchoinen had the manuscript bound (the year 1604 is found on the front cover along with his initials). Pe(de)r Hansson till Walstad was the commander (statshållare) of Savonlinna (Nyslått) 1602–1604. A coat of arms of the Forstena family, to which Pe(de)r Hansson belonged, is depicted in the middle of the text (see Rudbeck 1912, 3). The same Sigfried Luchoinen is mentioned as the recipient of another manuscript (now Stockholm, National Library, B 106) (Walde 1918, 88).

At the lower edge: A memento mori consisting of a coat of arms depicting a skull. With the words ‘altissimo, soli, laus’ and below it the sentence ‘Döden ähr oss allom wiss Men tyden och stunden ähr owiss’.

On fol. bv, the names of Pe(de)r Hansson’s daughter Anna Persson and her spouse Erik Ribbing appear along with the year 1612 and place Hvargarn. This may suggest that the manuscript was rather quickly passed from Sigfried Luchoinen back to the Forstena family.

Inner back cover: ‘Anno 1649 domini 31 Decembris’; other short notes in Latin and Swedish.

The manuscript then remained in Sweden, as is evidenced by copies of letters and accounts written in Gävle, Uppsala and Stockholm. How it came to Uppsala University Library is unknown.
