                <foliation>The two first leaves have been marked in modern times with pencil (a and
                  b). Saec. XVIII pagination in ink on the recto sides, which starts from fol. 1 and
                  runs to fol. 151 (pp. 1–299). This pagination is referred to in the <date from="1700" to="1799">saec. XVIII</date>
                  registry. The pagination was later cancelled when a younger foliation in ink was
                  applied (1–164); two folia numbered 64 (64 and 64a); foliation jumps from 102 to
                  105. The actual number of leaves is thus 163. The newer foliation has been
                  corrected in several places.</foliation>

                    structure is difficult to reconstruct accurately owing to the tightness of the

              <p>One main hand writing a steady book cursive of <date type="script" from="1585"
                  to="1615">late saec. XVI (or early saec. XVII)</date>. The same hand wrote several
                marginal and other additions to the law texts. The hand also wrote the
                  <lang>Finnish</lang> section on fol. <locus>20r</locus>–v, strongly suggesting
                that the scribe was Finnish. According to <bibl>Schlyter (1834, LIII; 1869,
                  LXIII)</bibl> the manuscript was written by the same scribe as <ref type="mss"
                  >Stockholm, National Library, B 119</ref> (no. 36 in Schlyter). This is difficult
                to confirm, since the quality of script varies considerably between the two
                manuscripts. </p>
              <p>There are a few other hands of <date type="addition" from="1600" to="1699">saec.
                  XVII</date> making notes and additions to the laws. Fols.

                  <locus>159r</locus>–<locus>163v</locus> feature further hands of <date

            <origin><p>The fact that the main hand supplied the <lang>Finnish</lang> text suggests that the
              manuscript originated in Finland at the <origDate from="1585" to="1599">turn of saec. XVII</origDate> – possibly after 1602
              when <persName role="owner">Pe(de)r Hansson of Walstad (Forstena)</persName> became the commander of Savonlinna. It
              contains a copy of King <persName role="author">Kristoffer</persName>’s <title><hi rend="italic">Landslag</hi></title> furnished with
                several additions, and other texts, all closely related to another manuscript,
              <ref type="mss">Stockholm, National Library, B 119</ref>.</p></origin>

                han ärff fallin I weta må ... ' (ed. in Rudbeck 1912, 4). Luchoinen had the manuscript bound (the year <date type="binding">1604</date> is found on the
                front cover along with his initials). <persName role="owner">Pe(de)r Hansson till
                  Walstad</persName> was the commander (statshållare) of <placeName>Savonlinna</placeName> (Nyslått) 1602–1604. A coat of arms of the
                Forstena family, to which Pe(de)r Hansson belonged, is depicted in the middle of the
                text (see <bibl>Rudbeck 1912, 3</bibl>). The same <persName role="owner">Sigfried Luchoinen</persName> is mentioned as the
                  recipient of another manuscript (now <ref type="mss">Stockholm, National Library, B 106</ref>) (<bibl>Walde
                    1918, 88</bibl>).</p><p>At the lower edge: A <hi rend="italic">memento mori</hi> consisting
                of a coat of arms depicting a skull. With the words ‘altissimo, soli, laus’ and
                below it the sentence ‘Döden ähr oss allom wiss Men tyden och stunden ähr
                owiss’.</p>

              <p>On fol. <locus>bv</locus>, the names of <persName role="owner">Pe(de)r Hansson</persName>’s daughter <persName role="owner">Anna Persson</persName> and
                her spouse <persName>Erik Ribbing</persName> appear along with the year <date type="acquisition">1612</date> and place <placeName>Hvargarn</placeName>. This may
                suggest that the manuscript was rather quickly passed from <persName role="owner">Sigfried Luchoinen</persName> back
                to the Forstena family.</p><p>Inner back cover: ‘Anno 1649 domini 31 Decembris’;
                  other short notes in <lang>Latin</lang> and <lang>Swedish</lang>.</p><p>The manuscript then remained in
                    Sweden, as is evidenced by copies of letters and accounts written in <placeName type="provenance">Gävle</placeName>, <placeName>Uppsala</placeName>
                    and <placeName>Stockholm</placeName>. How it came to <orgName>Uppsala University Library</orgName> is unknown.</p>
