                <condition><p>The manuscript is composed of different parts dated mostly to
                      <origDate>1487</origDate> and <origDate>1491</origDate>. The first part (fols.
                    2–49) contains a single text dated to <origDate>1487</origDate>. The second part
                    has one quire (fols. 51–66) dated to <origDate>1491</origDate>. The third part
                    consists of four quires and several texts (fols. 67–128), of which two are dated
                    to <origDate>1491</origDate>. The last part (fols. 129–165) contains an undated
                    text, with the beginning and end missing. These different sections also have
                    different watermarks (see <bibl>Walta 2013, 264–265</bibl>). Folia missing after
                    128 (no text lost), before 129 and after 165.</p><p>The manuscript is frayed
                    along the edges but otherwise in relatively good condition. </p></condition>

              <p>Fols. 1–128 (apart from fol. 50) written by <persName role="scribe">Jöns
                  Budde</persName> in <origDate>1487</origDate> and <origDate>1491</origDate> in a
                rapid cursive (Budde identifies himself on fols. <locus>49v</locus>,
                  <locus>66v</locus>, <locus>85v</locus> and <locus>125r</locus>). The fourth
                section (fol. 129–165) displays a slightly more controlled and neat cursive, which
                is still likely written by <persName role="scribe">Jöns Budde</persName>, and may be
                older than the other parts (see <bibl>Walta 2013</bibl>). On an added singleton
                (fol. 50) another hand, <persName role="scribe">Ericus Nicolai</persName>(?) OFM.
                There are several <hi rend="italic">nota</hi>-markings and some additions written in
                the margins. Headings often added in the upper margin.</p>

              <p>Wooden boards with simple brown leather covers. The first flyleaf contains a
                segment from <persName role="author">Jacobus de Voragine</persName>’s <title><hi
                    rend="italic">Legenda aurea</hi></title>, written in a hand of <date from="1300"
                  to="1399">saec. XIV</date>. The second and third flyleaves are glued together.
                They contain a liturgical text with gothic notation, also from <date from="1300"
                  to="1399">saec. XIV</date>.</p>

          <history>
            <origin><p>The book contains a collection of text written by brother <persName
                  role="scribe">Jöns Budde</persName> from the <origPlace>Birgittine monastery of
                  Naantali</origPlace>. The manuscript is a compilation of texts; most of the stints
                of copying are dated in colophons to <origDate>1487</origDate> and
                  <origDate>1491</origDate>. The first part (fols. 2–49 is) is dated
                  <origDate>1487</origDate>, the second (fols. 51–66) and third (fols. 67–128) are
                dated to <origDate>1491</origDate>. The last part of the manuscript is undated but
                was probably written by Budde and may be somewhat older than the rest of the book.
                The writing is done in a rather rapid cursive, but the presence of simple lombardic
                initials and various marginal notes suggest that the book was intended not only as a
                collection of drafts. Since the manuscript is written in <lang>Swedish</lang> and
                contains spiritual texts, it was probably intended for the sisters of the monastery.

            <provenance>
              <p>Written and used in the <placeName type="provenance">Birgittine monastery of
                  Naantali</placeName>. Back cover pastedown: ‘Soror marta hacvini obiit Anno domini
                1517’. This note probably refers to <persName>Marta Hacvinsdotter (or
                  Jönsdotter)</persName> who is mentioned as an abbess in 1516 and 1517.</p>
            </provenance>
            <acquisition>
              <p>After the monastery of Naantali was closed, the book came to <placeName type="provenance">Turku</placeName> Cathedral. This
                probably happened after <date type="acquisition" notBefore="1651">1651</date>, since the book is not included in the cathedral’s
                inventory from that year. The manuscript was discovered in <date type="acquisition"
                  >1754</date> in Turku Cathedral by <persName role="owner">Jacob Langebek</persName>. In <date type="acquisition">1758</date> the
                manuscript was taken to Kungliga <orgName>antikvitetsarkivet</orgName> (<orgName>Archives of Antiquities</orgName>) in <placeName>Stockholm</placeName>; in <date type="acquisition">1780</date> it was
                moved to the <orgName>National Library of Sweden</orgName> where it was first misplaced, but relocated in 1866.
